Sho Sugi Ban wood paneling, hand made in the Catskills.

Sho Sugi Ban is a Japanese tradition of charring and preserving wood. Its functional and aesthetic merits have magnetized the worlds curiosity. I’ve been drawing from this technique to create Cosmic Discs, flower presses, dice, decorative wood and now custom made Wood Paneling. Below is a story in pictures of a recently commissioned wall for the Interior Design studio of Ferol Barton Blake, located on Warren Street in Hudson, New York. From the process of selecting the wood from Ghent Wood Products, to charring, sanding, staining, redrawing the grain and finally installing the finished panels, it was confirmation that I want to continue to grow into this magical technique. If you’re interested in commissioning an accent wall or want to find out more information about how you could bring some of this unique beauty into your home or workspace, please email me or stop by the shop. I would be happy to discuss the possibilities.
